Dear Bug… It’s Back to Basics

Dear Bug… It’s Back to Basics

Today was a first for something I never thought I would be joyful about, until I got ill. I cleaned the sides after supper! Such a simple task but it felt so good to be able to say that I had tidied up with the help of Samuel.

I’m lying here, barely able to keep my arms up to type as I’m shattered. Still, it was worth it. You may ask why something so small meant so much? I have spent the past twelve nearly thirteen years having someone do every last thing for me. As a person, when someone cooks, I like to feel like I have given back by helping tidy up. For years, I’ve had to just let people do everything without in my mind giving back in any shape or form.

This feels like a victory. I know I may not be able to do this again for a long time, due to the agony I’m now in but… I DID IT.

Please always be grateful for what you can do because there is always someone who would love to be in your position, (even if it is doing some cleaning). It sounds stupid but I’d love to be able to do the cooking or washing up everyday. It feels like I’m being a part of the household. Everyday in hospital, I used to hear the Carers moaning about how much ironing they had, how much washing they had to do. Moan, moan, moan. All in front of someone who would have loved to be able to do it if it meant some time out from the suffering. I think Samuel must think I’m crazy for the joy in being able to help out. For me, it brings back a bit of my old life, where we all used to help out after eating. It’s back to basics for a moment.

    Hi Jay,

I wrote a comment but it somehow dissapear in thin air, therefore I will try again 🙂

I agree, we take so many things for granted – until they disappear. My friend just lost his sense of smell after a flu…
Be grateful for what you have and can and appreciate it every single day is an awesome way to be more happy and content and enjoy your life. Ever heard of “attitude of gratitude”? https://www.happify.com/hd/the-science-behind-gratitude/ I think not – yet you know it anyway. 🙂 Yes, we should be thankful… and every day find some time to appreciate and feel grateful for even for small things.

Thank you for the reminder, 😉
    M.
